A new report has shown that medical experts are now saying that video games, such as Fortnite, can be as addictive as heroin. It also claims that health experts believe it can negatively affect a child’s brain development, stating that”the thing about these games is that it gets kids’ dopamine systems involved–and it releases addictive substances that are very much like drug addiction.”Health Experts Say Gaming Could Be As Addictive As Heroin

The report continued to describe how tests were conducted on teenage boys, with one extreme instance of a player who admitted to having maintained playing Fortnite as a tornado ravaged his area and was only made to quit when power lines came down. Although the report comes out of a news website, it did not specify who these”health/medical experts” are which organizations they represent, so there’s absolutely no way to research and confirm those claims. Nonetheless, this is not the first time that Epic’s Fortnite was mentioned for problems originating away from the video game.

Two weeks ago, a divorce website based at the U.K maintained that countless couples mentioned Fortnite as one of the reasons for its passing of the unions. As of September 2018, there have been around 200 couples who have filed for divorce because of their significant other’s dependence to Fortniteor alternative video games.

These reports regarding the negative effects of Fortnite and other video games came out a few months after the World Health Organization (WHO) officially recorded video game addiction as a new mental health illness. The WHO believes that no greater than three percent of gamers are affected by the disease, which may only be diagnosed by a healthcare professional. The WHO also made it clear that this does not necessarily mean every man or woman who spends hours playing video games are suffering from the disorder. Rather, consistent symptoms should be present, ruining several elements of an individual’s life.

While video game addiction is a critical issue, it warrants a whole lot of research and folks should understand that the majority of gamers aren’t affected by it. In fact, video games per se are not bad for someone’s health, the issue arises when it becomes overly excessive and interrupts an individual’s life.
