Obviously, Sony’s official reason for not holding an event this season is clear since its highly anticipated names have been already published, God of War past April, and most lately, Insomniac’s Spider-Man.

But, there might also be another reason why Sony has decided to bypass the event this season. Obviously, it is well worth recalling that the organization was extremely secretive about the PS5 and has not disclosed or confirmed anything about the next-gen console. However, if you were to look at Sony’s history, the business has been consistent with all the openings involving consoles, using an average of 6-7 years. If Sony plans to follow previous patterns using its hardware release, then it is expected that the PS5 will launch somewhere in between 2019-2020, provided that the PS4 was released back in 2013.Why Sony Cancelled PSX 20

Moreover, several game developers are already looking into creating titles for next-generation consoles. CD Projekt Red mentioned before that even though its futuristic RPG Cyberpunk 2077 will be released for current-gen techniques, the studio is also looking at the prospect of releasing the game for next-gen consoles.

Currently, everything concerning the PS5 is only speculation at this time and has to be taken with a grain of salt. Of course, it’s somewhat disappointing that Sony will not hold a PSX event for this season in North America, but we can anticipate a more exciting and packaged lineup come 2019, which might or may not include a PS5 announcement. Who knows?
